IHG One Rewards Sweet Spots in 2026

Quick answer

IHG points are worth about 0.5 cents each, the lowest of the major hotel currencies, and the program compensates with volume and one strong mechanic. The fourth night free on any award stay of four or more nights is a flat 25 percent discount, and it requires an IHG One Rewards card from Chase: the Premier, Premier Select and Business cards include it, and starting in 2027 the no-fee card unlocks it after $5,000 of purchases in a calendar year (Chase, October 1, 2026). Holiday Inn Express at 15,000 to 25,000 a night with breakfast included is the workhorse redemption. Figures are as of 2026; confirm current rates at IHG.

IHG runs the widest range of any major hotel program, from roadside Holiday Inn Express properties to Six Senses resorts, and the points price spans that range just as widely. Pricing is dynamic with no published chart, so the useful thing to know is which brand tiers tend to land where.

What each tier costs

Brand tier Typical points per night Examples
Everyday About 10,000 to 40,000 Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood
Premium About 25,000 to 80,000 Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza
Luxury About 40,000 to 130,000 and up InterContinental, Six Senses, Regent

The floor runs as low as 5,000 points at budget properties, and the ceiling passes 120,000 at Six Senses and InterContinental resorts.

The fourth night free

Book four or more consecutive award nights and the fourth costs nothing. That is a 25 percent discount, better than the 20 percent that Hilton and Marriott offer on five nights, and it arrives one night sooner.

The catch is that it is a credit card benefit, not a program benefit. The IHG One Rewards Premier card has it, along with the Premier Select and Business cards since October 1, 2026, and, starting in 2027, the no-fee card after $5,000 of purchases in a calendar year. On the Premier, at its new $150 annual fee for new cardmembers, one four-night stay at a 40,000-point property returns 40,000 points, about $200 at 0.5 cents each, more than the fee.

The Holiday Inn Express play

Holiday Inn Express properties frequently price at 15,000 to 25,000 points with free breakfast built into the rate. Against a $150 cash night that is roughly 0.7 cents a point, which beats the program average, and the breakfast is worth real money for a family.

IHG also publishes a rotating quarterly list of hotels available at 10,000 to 15,000 points a night. Those are the best value in the program when the locations happen to suit you, and they change often enough to be worth checking before each booking.

What IHG is bad at

Luxury redemptions rarely justify themselves. At 100,000-plus points a night for an InterContinental resort, you are spending twice what the same night would cost in Hyatt points for a comparable property. IHG points are best treated as a high-volume, low-value currency, spent quickly on mid-tier stays rather than saved for aspirational ones.

The one exception is an off-peak InterContinental around 40,000 points, which is a reasonable trade when cash rates are high.

FAQ

How does the IHG fourth night free work?

On any award booking of four or more consecutive nights, the fourth night costs no points, a 25 percent discount. It requires an IHG One Rewards credit card from Chase; starting in 2027, the no-fee card needs $5,000 of purchases in a calendar year first.

What are IHG points worth?

About 0.5 cents each as a baseline. The fourth night free lifts the effective value to roughly 0.6 to 0.7 cents on qualifying stays.

How many IHG points for a free night?

From about 5,000 at budget properties to over 120,000 at Six Senses and InterContinental resorts. Holiday Inn Express typically lands at 15,000 to 25,000.

Is the IHG One Rewards Premier card worth $150?

If you book one four-night award stay a year at a 40,000-point hotel, the fourth night free returns about $200 in points, more than the $150 fee for new cardmembers, before counting the anniversary night worth up to 50,000 points.
