Chase Sapphire Reserve Benefits: 2026 Credits and Fee Math

By John Bourscheid · Updated October 2026 · 8 min read
Quick answer

The Chase Sapphire Reserve charges a $795 annual fee and offsets it with more than $2,000 in credits when fully used, plus the best travel protections of any card and points that transfer to Chase partners. It is worth it for heavy travelers who will use the Chase Travel portal and the credit stack, and overpriced for anyone who will not. Every fee, credit and earn rate below was checked against Chase’s own card page in September 2026 and none had changed.

The credits and perks

The card’s value is a stack of credits worth more than $2,000 when fully used. Several are niche, so the real number depends on your habits.

Easy credits About $1,100 Travel, Edit, and dining if you use them, as of 2026. Chase adjusts these over time, so confirm the current set at the issuer.

What you will realistically use: the $300 travel credit is automatic, and the Edit and dining credits are reachable if you book hotels through Chase Travel and eat at Exclusive Tables restaurants. Used well, the travel, Edit, and dining credits total about $1,100, already above the $795 annual fee, before StubHub, lounge value, or points. A realistic result for most travelers is $700 to $1,000, so the credits you will actually use are the whole question. The card-by-card comparison is in the best credit cards for lounge access.

It also includes Priority Pass lounge access, primary rental car coverage, a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit, and strong trip delay and cancellation protection. Authorized users are $195 each.

Is the Sapphire Reserve worth it? The fee math

The $300 travel credit is automatic, so the real fee is about $495 before any other credit. Add The Edit, dining, and lifestyle credits and a frequent traveler clears the fee easily, but the niche credits (Edit stays, Exclusive Tables, StubHub) only count if you would use them. Then the 8x portal earning and Chase transfer partners, led by Hyatt, do the heavy lifting.

Count only the credits you would use without changing your habits:

  • Travel, $300: applies to any travel purchase, so almost everyone uses it in full.
  • The Edit hotels, up to $500: reachable if you book prepaid stays of 2 nights or more through Chase Travel.
  • Sapphire dining, up to $300: only at Exclusive Tables restaurants, which cluster in big metros.
  • StubHub, up to $300: useful only if you buy event tickets.

The travel, Edit and dining credits together come to about $1,100, past the $795 fee before lounges or points. If you rarely book prepaid hotels through a portal or do not live near Exclusive Tables restaurants, count those credits as partial or zero. Booking hotels or meals only to trigger a credit is how the fee stops paying for itself.

Who it fits and who it does not

It fits people who travel often, book through Chase Travel, and value primary rental coverage and trip protections. It does not fit an occasional traveler or anyone who will not touch the credit stack; the Sapphire Preferred gives the same points ecosystem at a $95 fee.

FAQ

Is the Chase Sapphire Reserve worth it in 2026?

Yes for frequent travelers who will use the Chase Travel portal and the credit stack, which tops $2,000 when fully used. It is not worth the $795 fee for occasional travelers who will leave the niche credits on the table.

What is the Sapphire Reserve annual fee?

$795 as of 2026, plus $195 per authorized user.

What does the Sapphire Reserve earn?

8x on Chase Travel purchases including The Edit, 4x on flights and hotels booked direct, 3x on dining, and 1x elsewhere.

What credits does the Sapphire Reserve include?

A $300 travel credit, up to $500 in The Edit hotel credits, a $300 Sapphire dining credit, a $300 StubHub credit, monthly Lyft and Peloton credits, and Apple subscriptions. Confirm current terms at Chase.

Sapphire Reserve or Sapphire Preferred?

Both earn transferable Chase points. The Reserve ($795) adds portal earning, lounge access, and premium protections; the Preferred ($95) is the low-fee entry whose $100 hotel credit covers its fee. Pick the Reserve only if you will use its credits.

What are the main Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits?

The Sapphire Reserve charges a $795 annual fee and offsets it with more than $2,000 in annual credits when fully used, including a $300 travel credit, up to $500 in The Edit hotel credits, up to $300 in Sapphire dining credits, and DashPass, Lyft, and Peloton credits. It earns 8x on Chase Travel, 4x on flights and hotels booked direct, and 3x on dining, and includes Sapphire Lounge and Priority Pass access. Figures are as of 2026; confirm current terms at Chase.

Is the Chase Sapphire Reserve worth $795 in 2026?

If you use the travel, hotel, and dining credits and value the lounges and travel protections, the credits exceed the fee. If you will not use the credit stack, the Chase Sapphire Preferred at a $95 fee is the better way into the same transferable Chase points.

What changed on the Sapphire Reserve for 2026?

For 2026, the card added up to $250 in statement credits for prepaid Chase Travel stays at select hotel brands, including IHG, Montage, Pendry and Omni, on top of the up to $500 a year in The Edit credits that arrived with the June 2025 refresh, alongside the Sapphire dining credits and an earn structure led by 8x on Chase Travel. Confirm the current credits and terms at Chase before applying.

How much of the Sapphire Reserve credits can you realistically use?

The $300 travel credit applies to almost any travel purchase. Add the Edit hotel and dining credits and most active travelers reach $700 to $1,100 a year, which covers the $795 fee. Confirm the current credits at Chase.
